WDW Magazine Overall

CODES & CONVENTIONS OF WDW MAGAZINE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Throughout my analysis of several components of the WDW magazine (December, November, and October 2018 issues), I have come to several conclusions of elements seen in virtually every issue. Main cover lines on the cover page usually use fonts that tie into the aura of the issue (like how the December issue has a font that most associate with Christmas). There are not many cover lines, which forces the designer to choose the two or three main articles and feature them on the cover, which leads to the main image being front and center to help grab the attention of the reader. Another notable element on the cover is that they tend to make the font and main image colorful and bright so that it pops out to the reader.

The table of contents, like the cover, is modern and organized but fun to look at. The modern geometric block design of the pictures helps to catch the attention of the viewer and to make the table of contents not boring. The "ALSO IN THIS ISSUE..." section of the page also is created in a way that is not overwhelming to the reader, They make sure to make the titles of their main articles short and sweet so that the reader will get a gist of what the piece is about and want to read it.

The featured stories will always have a full page picture on one side that envelopes what the article on the next page will be about. For instance, the December issue has a picture of a Christmas Mickey Mouse float with the caption, "MVMCP started November 8th, 2018". The title font on the article page, like the main cover line, will use a font that relates to the article. October's issue uses a chilly, thriller font to help the Halloween vibe. The body font will always be the same modern font to reflect that this is the meat of the magazine, what will give both entertainment and information.

The audience for this magazine varies. It is very much a family magazine. Kids can do the activities in the magazine and read up on the "Merch of the Month" (November 2018 issue). Older Disney fans, like the young children's parents, can read articles like "When to Visit in 2019" and "Soarin' Around the World" to help plan their next visit and learn about new implementations and improvements in the park.

(November Issue)
The usage of the word "They'll Never Forget" implies the designer is speaking to a parent
about giving their child a family vacation to WDW.
The child in the picture also draws in a younger audience as the kid will want to be
that happy child meeting Mickey Mouse
